it is about 60% slower on a high end machine than standard SDRAM because the data have to be read twice (50%) and then a checksum has to be compared (another 10% hit). You won't see that necessarily in applications that don't hammer the memory but anything that utilizes bandwidth will kill you if you run ECC.
