The main problems as reported by our friend Jun-Ichi from Japan were, in fact with the Intel controllers, I killed a few drives myself whereas there have not been any problems with VIA, AMD or other controllers. To be honest, though, it is not a problem with the drives but with Windows98 starting with the SE edition which shuts down before the data of the drive cache can be flushed. Another reason to stick with 98 First Edition that doesn't have that problem.

Regarding IBM, I have been talking to them for 5 months now and it is like a black hole but that is not the answer to the original question.

bottomline is, there is a similar situation as with the AMD K6-2 running above 350 MHz under Win 95, the hardware is good but the OS was never made for that speed.
