Funny, I felt the same way when I saw the movie. Then I realized, that I hate the character, not the actor. He did an excellent job.

But I don't agree with you on the Russell Crowe "arrogant SOB" analysis. I think he's also a very talented actor, and a pretty cool guy. Didn't even realize he was Autralian until I saw him on Dave Letterman. He seems like a very down to earth guy.
