Until now I was running my new PIII800...(yes I got sucked in - mainly 'cause I dont want to buy an Athlon board and HP RAM until later in the year) with the standard HS/Fan Combo.
This HS had a ridge running along one surface I guess as a locator since it wedged in to where the PPGA and Chip met.
Well this wasnt a very confident seat and coupled with the high point on the lever arch, the Alpha clone HS wouldnt ever fit with confidence. Funny that it would on another slocket I had for my C600@855.
Anyway I began filing away about 3mm of HS to allow for a better seat when I realised the strength of those little lever arch pining devices.....MAN...What I cam up with worked and that was to not press the pins of the chip right into the PPGA, but rather leave about 1-2mm air gap.
Now I thought this might not resist the force of the spring clip (very hard) of the HS and hence the pins would simply slip all the way in on application....no way!...those little Fxckers held tight and ar still doing so today.
In the end it saved me filing away all that metal (dont have a grinder) and the HS sitts nicely.
Unfortunately on subsequent attempts to crank this Phillipino PIII800E over the 100FSB have failed miserably up to 2V. I'm a little cautious as to going any higher, so looks like I got a PIII800 and nothing more.

Thats okay though, I will upgrade Mobo and chip in July. I've sold my C600@855 chip/system and it leaves home tommorrow with a CDR and a CDWx2x6, 6.3GQFB and 64MB for US$500...I thought it was a good sale..;>)....Should pay for the new Setop DVDplayer, SonyCDRW and PIII800.
