A Ramdrive is actually RAM
(which ever kind you have) that is set aside away
from the OS & is formatted like a Hard Drive, so
it is very very fast & nothing to wear out either. The drawback is if the power is removed all is lost on the ramdrive, unless you have copied to another media.
Ramdrive can hold temp files, can zip files up much quicker then a HD. If the ramdrive is big enuf & your CD burner needs to copy to a drive first ramdrive is perfect

I have used ramdrives with DOS for along time now
& in the old days I copied the system files to ramdrive then the game I wanted to play & turn off
the noisy HD's & enjoy my game in quiet bliss & very very fast too. I still program basic in ramdrive & I still use DOS alot.

MS with DOS 6.22 & the latest versions are limited
to 32 MB of ram, but I am using a driver that goes
up to 2 gigabytes & you launch from autoexec.bat &
not from config.sys like the old ramdrives.

Some servers keep the OS in a ramdrive to speed up
access to all the info if in ramdrive or HD.

If you need the link or a copy I will try to hunt it down again as last time I could not get to the old page anymore or in there server at all.

Bob
