Just writing to say thanks heaps for the comments and suggestions, my system is now up and running like a dream.
First things i tried worked, which was to replace the floppy cable, HDD cable, remove a stick of RAM and all other 'extras'.
Switched on and things started to happen. Now i have everything connected back in (modem, CDROM etc) and all works superb. The only thing i cant put back in is the other stick of ram. The comp just doesnt want to know about it. Which is strange coz they are both 64MB generic dimms.
But this is no real problem. New stuff works a treat.
