I'm on the brink of success here, I can feel it.
My system is as follows:
T-bird 1ghz
256mb pc-133 sdram
asus a7v mb
elsa erazor x video
soundblaster live plat. 5.1
2x wd 30gb ata/100
i have both WD drives controlled by the promise ata 100 controller (which shows up in windoze as a scsi controller). windows setup would not recognize the ata 100 drives, so i installed the OS while leaving both drives plugged into the standard IDE port. finished installation of promise drivers within windows, stuck the ata/100 cable into the ata/100 slot on the board and selected 'bootable ata/100 device' as my primary boot method in the bios.
everything's cool so far, right?
well, the system boots, but before it goes to the 98se splash screen, it says "DISK ERROR. INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER." I hit enter and Windows loads just fine from the ATA/100 drives. What's going on with that? I suspect it isn't a windows issue since windows hasn't been initialized by that point.
If anyone else has had this problem, let me know. Perhaps there's a patch I'm not aware of, but it does seem like ATA/100 support within the asus bios is sparse at best...
Again, this isn't hurting productivity at all. just a pain to be hitting enter every time my pc starts. plus, standby support in windows while running 2 ata 100 drives seems a tad sketchy. yet, issues i'm curious to find a solution for.
