It sounds like there is a good possibility that you have your floppy cable backwards. Check to see that the lead with the red stripe is attached to pin 1 on the FDD. I had to cut the little nib off the cable to attach it to a Sony FDD on one system I built. Dunno?

As for the mass storage controler, (I had this board a yeat ago) I think you need to install the drivers from the abit disk. If I remember right it is what allows you to use the ATA66 interface.

Just attempt to install the SCSI device and point to the disk for location of the drivers. Again going off memory.
