There are some options out there starting around $90 that integrate in one box, for example, a hardware firewall, a gateway, and a four-port 10/100 hub or switch, which would serve your purposes -- the computers could share the one connection, use the one IP from the cable company, and no particular machine would have to be on for the others to have access.

Assuming you are in the US, the cable company (though they may say otherwise cannot regulate how you divide up the connection inside your residence, so long as you use the one IP and don't create a setup that causes problems outside of your residence.
