People are becoming more literate but there are still hoards out there who are impressed by a bigger number and will buy accordingly.

Sure, for RAID-knowledged users ATA/100 can be a sweet deal but IMHO the majority of ATA/100 sales made to people ASKING for ATA/100, as with all computer hardware, will go to unfortunate naïfs who thing larger, faster, louder, brighter, etc. is an automatic performance gain.

Intel wouldn't use "Make the Internet go faster" as a marketing slogan if people weren't actually swollowing that tripe.
