Try NVidia 6.31 if you can find it.
If you haven't already, go to Device Manager => Performance tag, File System button, set 'Typical Role' to Network Server. Go to Virtual Memory button, specify the SAME SIZE min and max amounts, at least 2.5-3 times your physical RAM. Exit and reboot.
Go to Safe Mode, pull up Device Manager, delete ALL instances of duplicate items, and any 'old' items that are lingering there, reboot and let Windows re-find the correct ones.
Go to Windows Update and get any critical updates that it says you need.
Scandisk and defrag your hard drive.
Also note this PC World article from September, RE: Windows, fast CPUs, and hard drive with large caches. You could try verifying if it's a problem for you by down-clocking your CPU to 850MHz and see if it fixes anything.
Good luck
