c:\windows\sysbackup\RB0*.cab
is where the reg backup is stored
win98 stores a backup for each day the pc is booted, win95 stores a backup each and every time it boots to the shell.
98 stores 5 backups by default, 95 stores 1
to change the number of backups 98 stores, open scanreg.ini with notepad and change MaxBackupCopies=5 to 10 or whatever number you want. the newest file pushes out the oldest file.
typing scanreg in the run dialog box from the start menu runs scanregw.exe
in dos scanreg.exe loads.
scanreg /? will list the options
scanregw.exe compresses the registry before stashing it. scanreg.exe doesnt.
if i'm doing a lot of awsomely exciting registry editing, i will back up the registry to a different partition than C or to a different pc on the lan using regedit.
start. run, regedit (make sure the tree is collapsed to "my computer" ).
then click "registry" "export" type a file name and navigate to where i want it stashed.
