I have an T-bird 700 with a double heat sink and fan. I've found the avg temp of my cpu to be about 40c with my chassis temp about 35c. I know AMd cpu's run hotter then intel and have been monitoring the heat. I've overclocked my Cpu to 800mhz and found CPu temp to rise to about 2-4 degrees depending on the workload. Your best bet is to get a good Heatsink fan combo. Ie golden Orb
or to put more fans in your tower to get the air circulating! As for software coolers i'm not sure of their effectiveness.
