Have you tried the Disk Doctor program and run a Surface Analysis. It looks for bad spots on your hard drive. As far as a RAID 3,5 solution have you looked at the Promise SuperTrak 100 or 66. Also, Adaptec has a card that does RAID 5 (ATA66)they call it a AAA-UDMA Card. Adaptec card was pricey, but I imagine the SuperTrak will be as well.
