ABIT Announces FlashMenu: The Best in BIOS Updates Tools

Taipei, Taiwan, R.O.C. Friday, January 05, 2001— ABIT now announces the release of our latest contribution to reliability in computer hardware: ABIT FlashMenu. FlashMenu is a BIOS updating tool that uses a windows-style graphic interface to make the process easier, faster, and safer than ever.

FlashMenu was created by ABIT programmers with the goal of making BIOS maintenance worries a thing of the past. BIOS updates are the best way to take advantage of new features and resolve hardware incompatibilities, but before FlashMenu these updates had to be done in text mode at the command prompt, and were subject to numerous errors. This new tool, when run, auto-detects your motherboard’s current BIOS revision and helps you choose the best new revision among those available at ABIT’s website. It then offers three degrees of BIOS-flashing automation: Users can choose “One Click Live Update,” “Step by Step Live Update,” or “Update from File.”

“One Click Live Update” is the easiest of these options to use, and is most beneficial to entry-level users. It checks the ABIT website for the most recent update, downloads the .bin file, and prompts the user to reboot, at which time the new BIOS is auto-installed. “Step by Step Live Update” offers more choices and is appropriate for intermediate users. It informs the user that a new BIOS is available, but also allows him or her to choose an update other than the most recent. It downloads the .bin file and then offers the choice of saving a backup of the current BIOS before proceeding to reboot the computer and auto-install the new BIOS. “Update From File” offers advanced users all the control of the old BIOS update method but in the more convenient windows environment.

Of all the BIOS update tools currently on the market, ABIT’s FlashMenu is the one that offers so many choices and such ease of use.

FlashMenu is now available from ABIT’s website and is included with currently shipping motherboards. The first set of BIOS updates available through this tool are as follows: KT7, KT7-RAID, KT7A, KT7A-RAID: KY7_WW; BX133-RAID, BE6-II v2.0: BER_VI; VH6: VH6_UV; VH6-II: VH6H_WV; VL6: VL6_UX; SE6: SE6_VK; SE6 v2.1: SE6P_WL; SH6, SA6R v1.0: SAH6_VW; SA6, SA6R v1.1: SAH6P_WJ.
