I Hate Norton Utilities!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What happened? I got NU and installed it. Wanted to defrag, ran the SpeedDisk Tool and got that scratching sound again... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I could only boot up in safe mode and scandisk wouldn't finish, because it hung with that bad sound at some position on the surface test. A spooky thing is: Defrag didn't refuse to run. Usually, it checks for errors and spits out a message like, I found errors, run scandisk first...

I took everything apart ang got now the drive laying on the desk as well ( due to the mobo failure, I have a P2B w/ Cel433 on my desk ). I connected all the parts again and, hey, I can boot normal again *there's hope*. But still, Scandsisk doesn't finish...

Now, some of you might remember, I already had to swap ( warranty return ) my drives in last summer because I had the very same problem and don't want to do this again!

One drive is, so far, corrupted.

1)I ask you, what does that read failure mean? Physically, on the platter... is there a scratch? It seems as if there's no data at the bad place and the comp runs fine, so far...
2) Is there any danger for my data on the drives if I let the setup run as it is now?
3) Does anyone know of a tool, that scans for bad sectors like scandisk, but doesn't refuse to work, after it finds such an, obviously, bad sector
4)And: Does anyone think, if Norton Utilities could cause such a thing? I'm really curious about that. Or could it maybe be the controller, stressing the drive too much? ( it's been set to the fastest settings everywhere).
5) Any other recommendations are welcome as well as just nice words . All replies, of any kind are apreciated...
6I'm now looking around for a RAID solution, that still bases on IDE but runs levels 3 or 5, to have speed AND security for my Data... Does anyone know of such solutions.

Thanks friends,
tide
