What is particularly puzzling about the ALiMAGiK 1 chipset and, by extension, about the Iwill KA266 is the dependence of performance on choosing the correct BIOS parameters. That is, a more than 15% system performance delta on the basis of a single memory parameter raises certain suspicions regarding the actual nature of these settings with respect to register addressing in the chipset by the BIOS. We'll have more on that subject shortly. It is self-understood that by setting inappropriate values in the BIOS, the system performance will be severely impacted. On the other hand, our benchmark data show what kind of performance can be unleashed with only a modicum of systematic experimentation. Please keep in mind that these numbers were achieved with one, barely overclocked 1GHz Thunderbird, a hopelessly outdated graphics card and similar hard drive. All in all, the conclusion of this review is that the Iwill KA266 is currently by far the fastest board available (in two weeks). If the final revision holds what the preproduction version promises and, further, addresses the known weaknesses with respect to driver and compatibility problems, the KA266 will be the one board to watch out for. With or without RAID, the ALiMAGiK1 chipset-based Iwill KA266 is on its way to break any record
